Once you connect Apple Podcasts to Disctopia, you can submit shows to Apple, claim shows you already publish there, deliver premium subscriber-only episodes, and (where eligible) upload Apple Podcast Video — all from your Disctopia dashboard.
This is a per-creator connection. You generate your own Apple credentials and Disctopia uses them on your behalf. Apple sees the API calls coming from your account, not from Disctopia's.
What you'll need from Apple Podcasters Connect
Three things, all from the Apple Podcasters Connect (PCC) dashboard:
- Provider ID — a 10-character identifier for your Apple Podcasters account
- Key ID — a 10-character identifier for a private API key you generate
- .p8 private key file — Apple lets you download this exactly once when you generate the key. Save it somewhere you won't lose it.
⚠️ About the .p8 file: Apple does not let you re-download a .p8 after the initial generation. If you misplace it, your only path is to revoke the key in PCC and generate a new one. See I lost my .p8 file — how to recover.
Step 1 — Open the Connect Apple Podcasts dialog in Disctopia
- Sign in to Disctopia.
- Click the Apps menu in the left sidebar.
- Click Apple Podcasts.
- In the dialog that opens, review Apple's Terms of Service, check the box, and click Continue.
The dialog shows three steps along the top: Intro → Credentials → Success. You're now on the Credentials step.
Step 2 — Find your Provider ID
Your Provider ID (Apple also calls it "Issuer ID") is the 10-character identifier Apple assigns to your Podcasters account.
- In a new tab, sign in to Apple Podcasters Connect.
- Click your account icon in the top-right corner.
- Click Account in the menu.
- Open the API Keys tab.
- Your Provider ID is the value under Issuer ID at the top of the page. Click Copy.
- Switch back to Disctopia and paste it into the Apple Provider ID field.
💡 The Disctopia field has a help icon (?) next to the label. Click it any time to see this same set of steps inline.
Step 3 — Find or generate your Key ID
Your Key ID identifies a single API key inside your Apple Podcasters account. You can have multiple keys (one per integration); Disctopia just needs the one you use for us.
If you don't have a key yet
- On the same Account → API Keys page in PCC, click the + button next to Active.
- Give the key a name like
Disctopiaso future-you knows what it's for. - Choose Show Manager access (or higher).
- Apple downloads the
.p8file to your computer immediately. This is the only time you'll get to download it — save it somewhere safe like 1Password or a secure folder. - The new key now appears in the Active list. Copy the 10-character Key ID value.
If you already have a key for Disctopia
- Open Account → API Keys in PCC.
- Find the row for the key you generated for Disctopia.
- Copy the Key ID (10 characters).
Paste it into the Key ID field in Disctopia.
Step 4 — Upload your .p8 private key
- In the Private Key (.p8) field, click Choose key file (.pem or .p8) (or drag the file onto the box).
- Pick the
{IssuerID}_{KeyID}.pemfile that Apple downloaded when you generated the key. - The filename appears with a green check once it's loaded.
🔒 Where the key goes: Disctopia encrypts the .p8 at rest in Azure Key Vault. We use it server-side to mint short-lived signing tokens (JWTs) when we call Apple on your behalf. The key never leaves our servers and is never written to logs.
Step 5 — Verify and connect
- Click Verify & Connect. The button shows Verifying… while we talk to Apple.
- Disctopia parses your
.p8, mints a 1-minute test token, and calls Apple to confirm the credentials work. - If everything checks out, you'll see the success screen: "Apple Podcasts is connected."
You can now:
- Submit new RSS shows to Apple
- Claim shows you already publish on Apple
- Enroll shows in the Apple Podcasters Program (premium subscriber-only episodes)
- Upload Apple Podcast Video episodes (where eligible, with our AI copyright pre-screen)

Troubleshooting
"Provider ID must be exactly 10 characters."
Your Provider ID got truncated or has extra spaces. Re-copy the Issuer ID value from PCC → Account → API Keys. It is exactly 10 alphanumeric characters.
"Key ID must be exactly 10 characters."
Same issue — re-copy the Key ID from the row in PCC → Account → API Keys.
"That file is not a valid Apple .p8 private key."
Apple's .p8/.pem files are PEM-encoded P-256 elliptic-curve keys. If you accidentally opened the file in a text editor and resaved it, or if you grabbed the wrong file, the validation will fail. Re-download it from your secure storage — or if you only had the one copy, revoke the key in PCC and generate a new one (see recovery article).
"Apple rejected the credentials."
The Provider ID, Key ID, and .p8 file you uploaded don't agree with each other on Apple's side. Most common causes:
- You pasted the Team ID instead of the Issuer/Provider ID (these look similar but are different)
- You grabbed the Key ID from one key but uploaded a .p8 file generated for a different key
- The key was revoked in PCC and is no longer valid
Re-check that the Key ID in PCC and the {IssuerID}_{KeyID}.pem filename match.
"Your Disctopia session expired."
Sign out of Disctopia and sign back in, then re-open the Apple Podcasts dialog.
What happens after connection
Your Apple connection is now live. You don't need to do anything else to get the basics working:
- New shows — Anytime you publish a new show on Disctopia, we automatically submit it to Apple Podcasts on your behalf.
- New episodes — Episodes go to Apple via the same RSS feed Disctopia already publishes, so Apple picks them up on its normal crawl schedule. (See Troubleshooting: my show is not appearing on Apple Podcasts yet if there's a delay.)
- Premium episodes — Available once you enroll a show in the Apple Podcasters Program. See How to enroll your show in the Apple Podcasters Program.
- Apple Podcast Video — Available on shows that meet Apple's eligibility requirements. See How Apple Podcast Video (HLS) works on Disctopia.
